There are times in my spiritual life that I fall into a routine with God: seasons where I read my devotions and pray small, regular, bland prayers. It’s like I frequently put God in a box where my petitions are safe and my prayers are assuredly answered in my favor.
However, lately, I sense that the Lord is calling me to pray bigger, bolder, more daring intercessions about His will for my life. James 4:2 says,
“You do not have, because you do not ask God.”
How often are we limiting ourselves because we simply don’t ask for the favor of our Heavenly Father?
Being a mother of two children, I want to give good, healthy blessings to my children especially if they are asking for great choices in situations that I can control. Our Heavenly Father loves us so much more than the depth of love a mother can feel for her own children! God desires for us to sit at His feet in holy communion with Him and ask for the desires of our hearts.
Another important passage that demonstrates this principle is 2 Corinthians 9:6 which says,
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
This scripture is often used in reference to tithing, but let’s realign this idea into prayer and petitions. According to this verse, if we sow fellowship with God generously, we are going to generously reap in blessings from a closer relationship with the Lord. We will live each day assured that we have spoken with our God; we are filled with the Holy Spirit and seeking His perfect will for our lives. Life just doesn’t get any better than that!
Our challenge lies in opening the lid to the box that we have idealized our God to live in. Let’s choose to believe the Bible which tells us what a powerful and mighty God we serve. Lastly, let’s pray brazenly while seeking God’s path for our lives.
My Prayer: Oh God, I confess my sin in believing you for so little! I choose to trust you with every area of my life. Holy Spirit, remind me to pray for my dreams that fall into your perfect plan for me. Thank you for pouring out blessings on your children.
