Last Monday, I celebrated my 40th birthday, yikes, there I said it. As I rang in what I would consider a monumental birthday, I was encouraged by the fact that I am much healthier and in better shape than I was at thirty or even twenty. Part of this reason is a change in physical activity. After a job relocation, I desperately wanted to meet people and connect so I started to take a Jazzercise class. In this environment, I found that I burned calories, enjoyed aerobics and strength, and appreciated the camaraderie and accountability of a fitness group.
As if by divine coordination with my birthday, I attended Jazzercise auditions to become an instructor and after months of preparation, I passed! This week has been the marking of a new journey into my 40th year.
I love Jazzercise, but I am not promoting my sport. I encourage you to find the fitness avenue that you love and do it. My teaching partner began running last fall and is now winning races in her age category. She loves to run now and simply began with a little effort and motivation. In addition most fitness programs can be relatively cheap to try out.
As our society continues to be more stagnant, it is critical that we find a way to exercise which not only increases aerobic capacity, but releases endorphins, strengthens bones, increases flexibility, burns calories, and detoxes our bodies. In addition to all of these reasons, it is just good old fashioned stress relief. Outside of good nutrition, it is the best treat we can give our bodies.
Thank you for continuing to join us on this journey! We are blessed by your comments and prayers. We have seen God do amazing things with our blog and are looking forward to pressing into Him even more as we travel this journey for Wholly Healing.
My Prayer: God, thank you for reminding us about the importance of exercise. We choose to honor you by taking care of our bodies. Holy Spirit, be our guide in regulating our exercise programs with our bodies' needs. Prioritize our lives to make good physical fitness a regular detail of our weeks. In Jesus' name!
