i've found that one of the hardest things for me to do is to completely surrender a prayer request to God.
i'll say, God, i surrender this [insert problem here] to you and trust You to answer according to Your will. And then, the next day (or week), i will do something to try to control or fix the problem because i become impatient with God's timing. It doesn't take long for me to realize that i really didn't surrender my wanna-be-in-control behavior to God, even though i could convince myself that i did.
i often wonder how my life could be more blessed if i just trusted God to answer my prayers ... in His perfect time and His perfect will. If i only had a little more faith and a little more patience.
My husband and i are going through a lot of life changes right now. We just got married in September. Last week, we put his house on the market (praying for a fast sell), and now we really want to start a family. There's a lot that i could feel anxious about, but it's stuff i just really need to pray about .... to let go and let God. If there's one verse i really need to memorize this week, it's this one:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. —Proverbs 3:5-6
My finite mind will never understand God's infinite wisdom. But i can choose to trust Him, and you can too. This week i'd like you to take all your prayers, write them down, find a jar (mason jar or recycled), put the folded prayer request in the jar and screw on the lid ... an act symbolizing that you have truly given your request to God and trust Him to answer.
Any time you feel impatient and the need to control that request/situation, that is, taking the prayer request back out of the jar and putting it back in your hands, remember that you put it in that jar and closed it. It is now up to God to move (and He will!).
The first prayer going in my jar is that Jason's home sells fast (two mortgages is NOT fun, lol). What will be your first prayer in the prayer jar?
Thank you, Lord, that you desire to free up my mind and heart from worry by taking on my burdens. i know that i am not strong enough, but You are. i pray Lord that you will open my eyes to see that you are trustworthy and faithful to answer my prayers without any help from me. Show me Your will, show me Your way. In Jesus name, amen.
