Sounds so silly, doesn't it?
How about these statistics:
Our culture has gotten away from consuming real, unprocessed, fresh foods for a long time. Mostly for the sake of convenience, but also for taste. There are so many additives in processed foods that serve to create an addiction. The problem gets worse as your taste buds change to crave those processed foods. Once the taste buds are used to the sugary, salty, processed foods, fresh foods taste bland and vegetables become difficult to swallow.
And it's not just the additives, that are concerning. Do you know what your food is sprayed with?
"Research has shown that many pesticides are neurotoxic and can cause disruptions to your neurological system and your brain."
There's a myth about fresh, organic foods, that it's so much more expensive than onn-organic, processed foods. i appreciate this article. Over time, because of the addictive quality of processed food, you will spend more on junk food. And, when you consider the effects the junk food has on your health, costs increase because of medicines needed to combat the effects of bad food.
"Since junk food is convenient, for the most part affordable, addictive and created to appeal to your taste buds, the system is orchestrated to keep you buying more junk food in lieu of real food, and the more you do this, the more you'll lose touch with the foundations of healthy eating -- and your kids may grow up never knowing the value of a home-cooked meal. So getting back to the original question, how to feed a family on a very limited budget, with a limited amount of time, the answer lies in choosing foods for their nutritional value, first and foremost, as well as planning out your meals carefully."
Options, when it comes to food, are plentiful, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't use biblical wisdom, discipline, and care when making decisions that will either promote good health or ill health.
There's no need to go throw away everything in your pantry. You can start today by buying better food choices. Over time, you'll replace those unhealthy pantry items with healthier options. Your body needs the nutrients in fresh foods for life. Not just life, but life that is full of vitality and well-being.
Here's a good video to watch.
Lord, thank you for all the good, healthy foods you have put on this earth for me to eat. i now know that the food you created is a small percentage of what is on the market. Help me to be disciplined so that i can be healthy all the years of my life. Amen.
