“Never forget that once upon a time, in an unguarded moment, you recognized yourself as a friend.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert
There is a lot of newness in my life these days. We are in a new town, a new house. Our kids will be going to new schools. I am working on some new projects. I am meeting new contacts.
In all honesty, it is a very exciting and tiring time. New things require more attention. Because you are unfamiliar, you have to put the energy in up front. It is kind of like a rocket ship. It burns most of its fuel during take off.
There are two constants in all this newness. Me and God. I have to remember to be my own advocate. I love the Gilbert quote. I have to recognize myself as a friend not an enemy.
Of course I am not perfect but I have to learn to appreciate myself and what I can contribute...even if somedays that isn't much.
My encouragement for you today is to honor God by learning to like yourself. As a believer you are made in his image after all.
34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Having a healthy relationship with yourself is important.
Father, keep us in balance. Allow us to not only rely on your strength but also honor you by appreciating the talents and gifts you have given us. As weird as it might sound, but I thank you for...welll...me. Amen!
