"Surely you ain't weak. You just can't accept yourself as a strong person"
When I saw this quote it reminded me of the latest in my house sale saga. In my last post, our third buyer just backed out. Two days after that post, we got our 4th offer on the house. By this time we know what we will or will not accept. The 4th buyers came in significantly lower than previous offers. So we play the negotiations game.
Over 2 days of countering our realtor is pressuring us to take their 206k with 3k offer. "Think about being able to get rid of the house and not carry the payment, utility, and up keep costs anymore.", she says. "I don't think you are going to get a better offer". "We are so close. I don't think they are going to come up anymore." "Could you borrow some money from a friends or family to make up the difference?"
Don't get me wrong, our realtor is fabulous and we know she was just doing her job. She wasn't being mean but she was turning on the pressure.
While we are hearing that from her, our home warranty came up for renewal. Our relocation company's incentive deadline is fast approaching. We would lose it if we didn't agree on a price soon. What do we do? If we take their offer, we will lose money on the house. Remember our first house sold at a 50k loss.
We have spent the last 3 and half months believeing God that we would not only sell our house but not sell it at a lost. When it is down to the wire the temptation to accept less than what we have been believing is right in our face.
Roman 8:38 No despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us
I know this scripture in context takes about what can seperate us from the love of Christ. But the part about overwhelming victory really spoke to me. Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ. Does overwhelming victory mean we sell our house for a 10 or 20k profit? No.
Victory for us is being able to say we stood on what we were believing God for in the face of pressure. We decidied what overwhelming victory looked like firm faith and other worldy P-E-A-C-E.
Overwhelming victory for my husband and I was to be able to say that no matter how many offers fall through. No matter how many incnetives we lose. No matter how much we have to spend on up keep. No matter how long we keep the house on the market, we have resolved not to be moved. We haven't gone through three offers above 206k falling through only to settle for a low amount now.
We countered back at at a higher price and added if they can't accept this, then thank you for your interest and may God bless you in searching for your new home.
A whole day went by before we heard anything back. Did we fret in those 24hrs about whether we made the right decision. No! We slept great. We weren't anxious. We enjoyed our 4th of July. We were walking in our overwhelming victory and it had NOTHING to do with their acceptance or not.
Sometimes your faith will test to you to see if you can "accept yourself as a strong person"--the person who is strong because of being fortified through God's Word. Can you see yourself strong?
Don't give up on the edge of your victory!
God thank you for your strength. We can't do anything on our own. We need you. Give us the strength to stand and keep on standing and keep on standing and keep on standing until we see the overwhelming victory in Christ. We release our preconceived notions of what that victory looks like and open ourselves to the blessings you have for us. Amen
