As I was praying over what the Lord would have for me to share this week, the idea kept coming to my mind that we need to be reminded about the Lord's faithfulness. You see, I know many people who are are just barely keeping their heads above the waters of life right now. The stories I'm hearing are not about unbelievers who are leading sinful lives, but God-fearing Christians who are honestly heartbroken and desperate for God.
When life's circumstances are tearing us down, what can we Christians do? The answer I believe is found in Ephesians 6:13 which says,
"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."
Being an English teacher, I automatically see the word, "when" which tells us that we will have days of evil in our lives. These days are not reserved for the unbelievers, but every person will have a tumultuous turn with life on earth.
The second important idea I see in this verse is a command: to stand. This is the season when we literally don't know what else to do, so we must choose to embrace God's promises and presence with anticipation and expectancy.
In the past when I've experienced hard times, I write meaningful Scriptures on note cards and carry those with me wherever I go. I've even gone so far as to putting them under my pillow at night. It's during these difficult times that we often see the tender presence of the Lord that we would have missed otherwise. Also these are the moments when we reflect back and assure others that God has not forgotten them-allowing our testimonies to be a witness to comfort others.
No matter what season you are finding yourself in today, God loves you and has great plans for you. He is faithful! He loves you!
My Prayer: God, thank you for the reminder that we are not alone navigating the roaring oceans of life. Your buoyancy is keeping our heads above the water. Thank you, Lord. I pray for comfort for those reading this who need a word from you. Speak loudly, Father. Help us stand firm when our worlds are crumbling. Your children love and adore you. In Jesus name!
