As I write this post, it is Sunday morning. Before I start preparing to get ready for church, I was reflecting on the week's activity. I am so full of thanksgiving, praise, and gratitude to my God. He is so good to me. Psalm 34 and Psalm 150 are two of my favorite scriptures on praise.
Psalm 34:1-3
I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together.
Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Praise is acknowledging God for what he's done. Psalm 103:1-5 tell us not to forget the benefits.
1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
This week I arrived at some major mile stones in my life. We closed on the sale of our house! Woo Hoo! I wrote about the faith lessons I learned from that.
Additionally, my business hit two major milestones. I am so excited about God's provision. But before I begin to bask in the gifts, I had to take time to acknowledge the gift giver.
James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Throughout the Old testament (Joshua 4:1-9) the children of Israel would buid alters of stones to memorialize the great ways God provided for them. Think about that. They would literally say, "this is so important that we must build a memorial for future generations."
I think this is a lovely illustration to us about how we should take time to acknowledge the great things God has done in our lives. Put it on the calendar. Plant a tree. Give an offering. Find ways to remember what has done.
What great things has be done recently that you want to memorialize?
Father, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! For all the many blessings you have given us. Some of those blessing are daily and then some are really significant. Let us always remember to give thanks and celebrate. Amen!
